A Few Tips For Credit Card Safety

Everyone is at risk for identity theft in this day and age, considering how readily available information is for practically everyone, and also how readily so many people give up valuable information that they shouldn’t.  But that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of things you can do yourself to ensure that the likelihood of you becoming a victim is as low as possible.

Such as:

- Consolidating your credit cards onto as few cards as possible.  That way your personal finances and credit statements are as easy to manage as possible, making your life much, much easier when it comes to keeping track of what’s going on with your money.

- Keep a record of all your credit/debit/ATM cards and bank account information, as well as all the numbers relating to each item in a secure place.  That way you have the information on file and it’s easy to access, so that if any item becomes stolen or compromised you can get in touch with the correct authorities as quickly as possible.

- Never ever give out any personal information such as a credit card number, or your Social Security Number over the phone or through an email.  Most cases in today’s world where someone asks for either through a medium like email or over the telephone, they’re usually inquiring about information that they can use from you for fraudulent purposes.

- When shopping and using credit or debit cards be sure to keep track of every receipt that you receive, as these always contain your name and a piece of the number on your credit card for your verification purposes.  Never discard these in a public trash container, as the information could easily be found by a thief and then used against you later.  Always carry the info with you in your wallet or purse until you can better dispose of the receipts at home.

Follow those pointers and you’ll be well on your way to making your credit cards much harder for an identity thief to steal and use against you.
