Make Online Shopping More Safe
Online shopping doesn’t have to be dangerous, as long as you know how to handle your credit card over the internet. Internet shopping is fun, and can be a great way to find items that may not be available in your area. As long as you know how and when to use your credit card, you shouldn’t have any trouble. The pitfalls of identity theft are easy to avoid, as long as you know what to do in each scenario.
The first step is doing at least a little bit of research for a site that you want to use. Every website used for sales purposes has to have a security certificate, to provide you the consumer with the information regarding what sort of encryption they use. Check up to make sure that they have a current certificate, so that you can be sure your information is being protected as well as possible.
Try to stick to more reputable companies, big chains like a Best Buy, Walmart, Target, etc. Any of the big chain stores can be trusted because you know where your information is going, and where the items are coming from. Any website that you’ve never heard of before, or that doesn’t seem reputable to you should instantly be avoided. Giving your credit card number out to a site that you don’t completely trust, is never advisable.
Also make sure to print out your sales receipts. These are useful for clearing up any possible problems later. Whether from charges that you didn’t approve, etc. You should always have a good record of your purchases.
Finally, try to keep your internet purchases to one credit card. This way you only have one card to monitor for possible internet identity theft. Also you limit how much damage can be done by only using one card for your purchases, as you only allow one credit card for a thief to go after.
