Make Your PC Secure in 3 Easy Steps

If the Internet has made the whole world accessible to us, it has also opened our doors to Hackers, crackers, spammers, and identity thieves. We are more vulnerable to identity theft in the digital world (the Internet) then we are in the atom world (the physical world).

But, fortunately, we have more tools to protect ourselves on the Internet then we have in the real world. In this blog post, I will talk about 3 things that you can do to protect your computer from the evil gaze of identity thieves.

Install a Firewall

Your home computer and your laptop are the prime targets of an identity thieves because there is no security expert or IT expert in your home. I know it is not feasible to have an IT expert in your study all through the day seven days a week. That is why I suggest you to install a firewall. You can go for either a free version or a paid version. There are lots of them of both kinds. All you need to do is search the Internet.

A firewall is an application that protects all the incoming data requests to your PC. Once installed, it will keep an eye on incoming requests. You can set your own rules for allowing or disallowing websites to reach you and your installed application to go online, or you can simply go by the default setting.

Install all the security fixes

There is a war going on, of which you are not aware, but the company who created your operating system (OS) is. To remain ahead of the digital evil spirits, the OS manufacturer finds vulnerability and releases security fixes from time to time, and those who keep their OS up-to-date by installing all the fixes always remain ahead of the hackers, crackers, spammers, and identity theft. Do not leave your backdoor open for thieves to sneak in, install security fixes and other patches, and keep your PC safe.

Keep your antivirus up-to-date

If you have not changed the setting manually then chances are that your antivirus connects to the server regularly, if not daily to keep its virus definition and scanning engine up-to-date. Always have recent antivirus and anti-spyware installed on your system. Do not go for the one your grandfather bought, a lot has changed since then.

These steps are critical in protecting yourself from identity theft. If you do not want to do it manually then set it all on auto-pilot, and by the way the default setting for each one of these will itself put each program on auto-pilot. All you need to do is to not interfere.
